Can You PRONOUNCE Qatar, Bahrain, and other Arabic Names? Let’s Review.

I was recently talking with a friend about the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2022 which will take place in Doha, Qatar. My friend expressed a sense of awe at my pronunciation of Qatar (“ooh that sounds so fancy!”) — well, the Arabic name does sound a bit..authentic…but that’s because it’s an Arabic word to begin with.
After that conversation, I thought it would be a great topic to delve into for this week’s video.  I think it’s worth noting that this video is not only for Arabic learners, but anyone with occasion to talk about the Middle East.
The idea of this video is to help you understand what the Arabic equivalents of the location names are–mind, you don’t have to say the Arabic name all the time, and nor should you. Why? For example, “Cairo” in Arabic sounds like “Al-qa-her-a” which sounds totally different from “Cairo,” and people who don’t know Arabic will look at you wondering what you are talking about. But for Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and others, as you’ll see in the video, the Arabic name is not only nicer-sounding, but original and correct.
With that in mind, I invite you to Like, Subscribe, Share, and enjoy the video (embedded above, or click here: https://youtu.be/sMdbWlAQgSU)

Cheers,
Shannon

I like it, So great you can translate it and explain how it’s pronounced in Arabic. If you notice there is “tafkheem-تفخيم” in all names if you say it in Arabic
